Transient Dynamic System Behavior of Pressure Actuated Cellular Structures in a Morphing Wing

High aspect ratio aircraft have a significantly reduced induced drag, but only limited installation space for control surfaces near the wingtip. This paper describes multidisciplinary design methodology morphing aileron that is based on pressure-actuated cellular structures (PACS). The focus of this work transient dynamic system behavior multi-functional aileron. Decisive aspects are actuation speed, resistance against external loads, and constraints preparing future wind tunnel test. structural stiffness under varying aerodynamic loads examined while using reduced-order truss model high-fidelity finite element analysis. simulations internal flow investigate pressurization process limits actuator response. authors present Pseudo Bond Graph enabling time-efficient simulation compare results to computational fluid simulations. findings demonstrate high forces feasibility speeds over entire operating envelope. Future research will incorporate fluid–structure interaction assessment load alleviation capability.
